lyrics
every day i go back and forth back and forth
and i wonder really what it’s for what it’s for
i got school so i go down south
even though there’s one right up near my house
on my bike on the bus in my car
i could do somethin good instead i just travel far
its nice to see the scenery throughout the year
but it would really be nice if i could just stay here
i got friends and relatives they live far away
i see em at weddings, funerals and holidays
i miss em i text em and i write sometimes
if i could see em weekly it’d be quite sublime
i could surf the internet all damn day
i could rap take a nap or kiss my babe
i could play guitar or take a book off my shelf
but instead i use the time to go somewhere else
my parents got a house in a town full of kids
but they teach other ones that’s not where they live
every town’s got kids hundreds or thousands
they probably got teachers livin in their houses
they could get together teach and learn right there
perhaps they would like that if they cared
rich kids go to private school somewhere else
and the teachers wake up and rearrange themselves
they live in the burbs and drive to their jobs
traffic jams beepin horns like angry mobs
they live in the city and still commute
because they have a job that’s somewhere else too
we can form business and other organizations
we can sprawl out across this entire nation
we can keep in touch buy stuff get ahead
but maybe we can do that on the internet instead
we go back and forth back and forth back and forth
and i wonder really what’s it for what it’s for
what’s so good about all these other places?
that it’s worth spending hours changin our spaces
on my bike on the bus in my car
i could do somethin good instead i just travel far
i kinda like the ride so it’s not that bad
but if school came to my house i’d be really glad
wouldn’t it be sweet to get far places fast
and underneath all this dirt there’s lots of metal and gas
they put it all together and invented the car
but they could just stay and do stuff right where they are
and when we use these things we destroy our planet
it won’t last forever if we take it for granted
you could bike buy a hybrid or take public transit
but you could also just stay right where you’re standin
we would like that
we could do stuff
we’d save money work less
we’d get out enough
we could travel when we wanted to for leisure
no traffic more novelty it would please us
so on your next trip if you start thinkin why
stay home instead find somethin good nearby
